Primary Education

Throughout their early years of education, children face an enormous array of challenges which, once overcome, lay the foundations for their future learning experience. During this formative time in their lives, young learners encounter key milestones in their emotional, social and cognitive development. They learn to work independently, think for themselves and communicate effectively; they learn to become more balanced in coping with frustration, failure and disappointment; and they learn to work cooperatively towards shared goals, identify and appreciate alternative perspectives, and broaden their interests.

Key Stage 1

In Key Stage 1 (KS1) English curriculum, children typically build upon the foundational skills they developed in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)/Foundation Phase in Wales. The primary focus is on developing their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. During this crucial stage of education, children aged 5 to 7 (Years 1 and 2) engage in various activities and lessons to enhance their understanding and use of the English language. Aside from phonics, children in KS1 English also focus on building vocabulary, developing reading comprehension skills, and improving their writing abilities. They explore a wide range of texts, including stories, non-fiction books, and poetry, to enhance their reading fluency and comprehension. They learn to interpret and infer meaning from the texts and engage in discussions about the content. Throughout KS1 Mathematics, children are encouraged to develop problem-solving skills and apply their mathematical knowledge in real-life situations. They engage in activities that require logical reasoning, critical thinking, and mathematical discussions. They learn to explain their thinking, use mathematical vocabulary, and justify their answers.

Key Stage 2

In KS2 (Key Stage 2), children in English continue to build upon the foundational language skills they developed in KS1. KS2 typically covers the ages of 7 to 11, and during this stage, children's English learning becomes more advanced and comprehensive. The focus shifts from basic reading and writing to further developing their reading comprehension, writing abilities, speaking, and listening skills. Key Stage 2 is an important phase in a child's education, where they continue to build upon the mathematical concepts and skills they have acquired in Key Stage 1. During this stage, children aged 7 to 11 undergo a structured learning process, which equips them with the necessary mathematical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. In Key Stage 2, children explore various mathematical topics across four key areas: number and place value, calculation, geometry, and measurement. These areas provide a comprehensive foundation for further mathematical development.

Primary in person classes

In Magor, South Wales, we run small groups for children in years 2 to 8. The groups are in person and have no more than 4 children in each group. Sessions cover the core skills in Maths and English and give group and individualised support. The groups are fun, engaging and collaborative. As parents, you will have access to digital resources after each session and a written report each term.
